a.		It was originally planned to open the film with the old black and white Universal logo that had been used at the beginning of The Mummy which would dissolve into the blazing desert sun.

Because British film censors would not approve of the USA version, in which they found the identity of the killer objectionable, a separate ending was filmed, with a different member of the cast identified as the murderer. This version survives in its complete form, and has been shown on cable television in the USA, which is rather confusing to watch since the identity of the original (USA) killer is pretty obvious right from the beginning. Meantime, the USA version received the usual hack job from Republics editors when it was sold to television back in the 1950s, and only seems to have survived in that mutilated form, with 13 of its original 66 minutes lost forever.
c.		The play consisted of 3 parts, each shown on a different evening. It opened in London on 9 January 1936; the Broadway openings for each part took place on 24 November 1936, 27 November 1936 and 30 November 1936 and starred Noel Coward and Gertrude Lawrence, running for a total of 118 performances for all three shows. There were 2 Broadway revivals.
d.		MGM was unsatisfied with the script even as the film was shooting, and hired Ben Hecht to "polish" it. They flew him to Rome, set him up in a house and paid him approximately $15,000 for a weeks work. Its not known if any of Hechts dialogue made it into the final film.
