The set of reels that was distributed to the movie theaters included a computer written, photocopied note from
David Lynch
himself giving special instructions to the projectionists worldwide. Specifically, he didnt want the movie to be centered vertically on the screen but rather to "allow more overhead" as the term in projectionists slang, that is to let the top part of the frame be more visible than the bottom part. This is because the film was originally made for TV, with an aspect ratio of 1:1,78 (or 16:9) in mind - without the projectionists manual correction, the aspect ratio of the theatrical release (1:1,85) would have resulted in heads being cut of at the top of the silver screen. Lynch also asked to raise the volume of the theaters sound system by 2 decibel when the film was playing. The note ended with the words "Your friend, David Lynch".
b.
Shirley MacLaine
wrote that since this was filmed in Mexico, it took substantial time to send the film to California for processing and return it for dailies. When MacLaine finally saw the dailies, she was appalled at how overstated her false eyelashes looked, as she was playing a hooker posing as a nun. She regretted that she could not remove them for the rest of the filming because the footage would not match.
c.
The original script for "Amadeus" saw a number of variations in character actions and roles: Salieris initial suicide attempt saw him attempt to jump out of his bedroom window as his servants tried to coax him away from the window and back to his own room (at which point they, as in the finished film, break down the door and find Salieri wounded); the servant girl Lorl played a slightly larger role as she was Salieris servant; Leopold Mozart, Wolfgangs father, took a more vehement stance against stopping Mozarts marriage to Constanze; and the Baron Van Swieten was cast as "Von Swieten".
