Was originally going to be Mary Harrons follow up to I Shot Andy Warhol but for some unknown reason the financiers back out at the last minute. Around that time Harron was given a copy of the novel American Psycho and she decided to make it her next film until she could find financiers for her Bettie Page movie. It then took almost five years to get the money for The Notorious Bettie Page.
