One of over 700 Paramount productions, filmed between 1929 and 1949, which were sold to MCA/Universal in 1958 for television distribution, and have been owned and controlled by Universal ever since. However,because of legal complications, this particular title was not included in the original television package and was not televised until many years afterward.

a.		According to Robert Morse, director Tony Richardson held John Gielgud in great esteem, and before Gielgud arrived to film his scenes, took Morse aside and asked him to be particularly nice to him.

The brave Virginian troops fought to the death while Buford, their commander, left them to their fate and fled. More Revolutionary War battles were fought in South Carolina than in the rest of the colonies combined.
c.		In the original ending Hunt Bromley was arrested by the sheriff, but studio chief Darryl Zanuck was so enraged at this resolution, so director King and writer Johnson concocted the ending where Bromley is beat up by the sheriff and let go. That satisfied Zanuck more.
