a.		Only about half of William Shakespeares original text is used. Sometimes details were changed, e.g. Lord Rivers (Robert Downey Jr.) was killed much later in the play than he is in the movie and when Queen Elizabeth (Annette Bening) receives the news of his death, the same messenger in the play only told her of his indictment on Richards and Buckinghams orders. Queen Elizabeth and the Duchess of York have larger roles then in the play. An important character in the play is Queen Margaret, widow of Henry VI, who does not appear in the film. Many of her lines are given to the Duchess of York, although these lines do not suit that character.
b.		Cinematographer Stanley Cortez was fired and replaced (by Joseph F. Biroc) after clashing with director Herbert L. Strock, but still retained screen credit.
c.		The original script was a horror film, and featured Beetlejuice as a winged, reptilian demon who transformed into a small Middle Eastern man to interact with the Maitlands and the Deetzes. Lydia was a minor character, with her six year old sister Cathy being the Deetz child able to see the Maitlands. Beetlejuices goal was to kill the Deetzs, rather than frighten them away, and included sequences where he mauled Cathy in the form of a rabid squirrel and tried to rape Lydia. Subsequent script rewrites turned the film into a comedy and toned down Beetlejuices character into the ghost of an wise cracking con-artist rather than a demon.
d.		The Dunsmuir House, located in Oakland, California would also be featured in The Vineyard, and So I Married an Axe Murderer, as well as in A View to a Kill, True Crime, and even Little Girls Blue.
