The name of the main character, which we discover to be Emmanuel Linum, was inspired by an experience of writer/director Daniel Rios. The summer before his freshmen year of high school, Daniel Rios attended a "freshmen fish camp" at his high school. Instead of following the group he was designated to, he wandered off with Albert Alba (who plays Linum in the film) who he knew outside of the high school but until that day had never really had a conversation with him. Unlike the organized freshmen tours being given, Alba took Rios on an underground tour of the school. This consisted of finding out where the jocks hung out, nerds hung out, and the infamous Linum losers that hung out on the street Linum on one wing of the high school. Linum was thought to be the hangout for scum and is still to this day. This stuck in Daniel Rios head. In wanting the character of Emmanuel Linum to be revealed as the lowest of the low scum of a character, Rios couldnt think of any name better than such.

physical performance would have to be employed in the digital creation of Gollum. So Weta Digital had to alter the design of one of the lead characters in the film, scanning Serkis face so that they would be able to incorporate some of his facial characteristics (the fact that Jackson had also filmed a flashback to be included in
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
with Serkis playing the original Smeagol only cemented this decision). This ultimately meant, however, that Weta Digital had only 2-1/2 months to redo two years work. Serkis himself thought that the final result looked like a combination of his father and his newborn baby.
