The original shooting script included Bulk (
Paul Schrier
) and Skull (
Jason Narvy
) respond to a Help Wanted flier and they end up working for assistants of Ivan Ooze (
Paul Freeman
). Ivan comments that he wanted some brilliant, good-looking assistants, to which Skull responded that he was brilliant and Bulk comments that he was good-looking. When Bulk and Skull realize that Ivan is actually a monster, they try to back out, but Goldar intervenes and prevents the two teens from leaving. Ivan reluctantly agrees to hire Bulk and Skull and he has them set up a booth at Angel Grove Park to hand out free jars of ooze to children. They are later mind-controlled by Ivan and Bulk even gets ooze splattered on his face after a children throws ooze at him when hes at the booth, but Bulk and Skull are freed from his control when Fred sprays them with a fire hose at Ernies Waterside Cafe. The scenes with Bulk and Skull meeting and working for Ivan, as well as being freed from Ivans mind control by Fred, were cut out of the film. However, a photo of Bulk with ooze on his face was shown in book stores for kids in an official behind-the-scenes scrapbook for the movie.

There were two scenes which were in the original script and filmed, but were cut from the final version of the film. One scene had the Kamp Komfort manager (
Brian Doyle-Murray
) dress up in a moose costume and sneak into Clark and Ellens tent to scare them (which explains the "wildlife fun" the manager mentioned as they checked in). That scene was cut because it made the sequence run too long, so it was re-written to have Dinky sneak into the tent instead. The second scene originally written/filmed but cut was a scene featuring the two Indians (the same ones who see Clark wandering aimlessly through the desert and say "What an asshole.") as well as a camel rider, who find Ellen and the rest of the family and rescue them. That scene was cut because according to Director
Harold Ramis
, the camel had been raised in Burbank and was only used to walking on pavement, and the camel did not take to walking on hot sand very well, and all the shots of the camel were just unusable. Remnants of both cut scenes appear as photos during the ending credits photo montage.
