a.		The source novel of the same name by Marilyn Durham was first published in 1972, only one year before this movie was made and released. One reason the movie came out so shortly after the launch of the novel was because scriptwriter Eleanor Perry was able to read the novel pre-release in galley form. Perry took the property to producer Martin Poll who subsequently bought the movie rights in January 1972. Perry wrote the original script for the movie and also received a producer credit.
b.		The scene where Bill Murray gets out of the news van and talks to the state trooper was filmed on the Amstutz Expressway under the Grand Avenue overpass just outside of downtown Waukegan, IL.
