A studio cast list, dated 15 June 1931, lists the following performers (and character names), all of whom were replaced and did not appear in the movie: William Bakewell (Jacques), Tenen Holtz (Emil), Lloyd Ingraham (Claudet), Claire McDowell (Angeline), Bradley Page (Salignac), Aileen Pringle (Suzette) and Margaret Seddon (Grandmother). In the final rewritten script, many of these characters were eliminated. A modern source lists Otto Hoffman in the cast as "Official," but he was not seen in the movie.
b.		The first credit frame on this film reads: "Willis Kent presents GUN SMOKE - A Montie Montana Western - Adapated from Gunsmoke Over the Guadalupe by Paul Evans Lehman". This was produced by Willis Kent and Willis Kent only. The reason for the "A Montie Montana Western" credit line was because the film was slated to star Montie Montana, who had starred in Kents The Circle of Death, but he had to drop out of this film. However, the "honorary" credit line was already on the graphic, and Willis Kent wasnt one to spend money to re-do anything. Consequently, Horse Wrangler/Trainer/Player Rocky Camron/Gene Alsace (billed here as Buck Coburn) got his first - and - only starring role. The pinto, however, did belong to Montie Montata. In short, Montana did NOT produce this film, and isnt credited on the film as a producer to begin with.
c.		One of the undertakers can be seen filling a plastic bag labeled "Mr. Sam Raimi" with ashes. "Ash" is the name of the character played by Bruce Campbell in the The Evil Dead series, directed by Sam Raimi.
d.		Although it has been claimed that longtime Warner contractee Monte Blue is not in the film, he is clearly visible in the final theatrical sequence sitting two seats to the left of Dennis Morgan.
