When faced with going through "the chompers", Gwens "Well, fuck that!" was re-dubbed to say "Well, screw that!". These edits were to avoid a PG-13 rating. a.		James Foley, Jack Lemmon and Alec Baldwin got together in 1991 to do several informal read-throughs. The producers of the film contacted the Creative Artists Agency and asked for some help with actors to do readings. CAA showed little interest, but two of their clients; Ed Harris and Kevin Spacey attended the read-through, and ultimately joined the cast. Al Pacino joined the cast soon thereafter, and subsequently Robert De Niro, Bruce Willis, Joe Mantegna and Richard Gere all made inquiries into the film.

Schifrin believed that Scorpio heard voices in his head and the female vocals would represent that. (This particular score was later sampled by rap group N.W.A in 1991 for the rap song Approach to Danger.)
d.		Based on the real-life efforts of former prison administrator Thomas O. Murton to reform Tucker and Cummins Prison Farms in Arkansas in 1967-68. Murton served as a technical advisor for the film.
