a.		Frank Sinatra mandated that this movies ending be changed and subsequently this destroyed any possibility of a sequel that the 20th Century Fox studio was considering. In the original ending which appears in the source novel, Ryan is not killed as with the films ending, he survives and with the other escaped POWs, is able to get to neutral Switzerland. This ending would have allowed Ryan, the movies central character, to appear in a sequel. Sinatra wished for his character to be killed off to add a token of believability to the movie as well as for there to be redemption for the death of the female character Gabriella.
b.		There were various production problems on this picture, including Charles Laughtons threatening to walk off the picture if the original director, Irving Allen (who was also one of the films producers) wasnt replaced (star Burgess Meredith eventually replaced him as director). Allen himself was very dissatisfied with the final results. After its initial run, he bought the film rights back from RKO and kept the prints out of circulation for a long time. Many believed that the film was lost, even Meredith. However, it has been released on VHS and DVD and can be relatively easily found at rental stores.

d.		Director Xavier Gens filmed the movie hoping for a second movie, so he intentionally left out 47s origins, but included characters to show he is a clone. However when the studio re-filmed the movie they not only included dialogue about his origins, but also changed them, making it impossible for any sequels to explain them as they are told in the game.
